Hi Max,

Have you tried zapping your PRAM?

Restart your Mac holding down the

Option Command P and R keys.

Continue to hold down through three startup 'bongs', then release.

It resets the output to the computer monitors.

also i just bought the m audio firewire 1814. i installed the driver and attached the m audio speakers. set the setting to appropiate ones but my main audio slider in the finder on the upper right side ist greyed out. audio overall control is only possible via the speajkers itself..
sorry for many questions but i am sweating and nervous...

You mention a new video card, this is likely the cause for your trouble. Here's what I would do:

1) Remove the video card.
2) Install the drivers for the card with the card removed.
3) Shut down
4) Reinstall the card

Had to do this recently for a wireless card in my PC and in the past when I got a new video card for my old FCP 3 setup.

with a mac, you cant just go out to your local computer store and grab whichever video card off the shelf. if it doesnt say MAC COMPATIBLE in big print on the box, there is a 99% chance - ITS NOT.

Well OS Xv 10.4.4 is not the current OSXv 10.4.3 is, so maybe you should get a qualified OS. It's still a beta seed to developers. Unless you meant OS X v10.4.3?
