Video Capture Cards

Can anyone recommend a card which does Component & Composite (plus balanced audio & deck control). Been recommended the Aja Kona LH which is almost perfect, except it will only do one or the other, but not both Component & Composite which i need. Any thoughts...

No...the Kona LE does both...and HD and SD. There is also the Decklink Series and the Aurora PipePro.

Are you looking for Standard def, or High Def cards?

Can you describe the routing you need/wish to take

eg:

A basic list of the connections required

Card out > (composite connection) > Monitor (model) in

Card out > (component connection) deck (model) in

Card in > (composite connection) > deck (model) out

Card in > (component connection) > deck (model) out

Without knowing EXACTLY what you need to connect it's hard to recommend anything.

Try to be Uber-specific with your questions on LAFCPUG so we all can offer the correct and best advice.

Without knowing this have a look at the AJA IO products - they might be an option for you:

*Note - if using FireWire for capture device(s) and for Video Drives it is recommended that you use them on separate FireWire buses so you should purchase a separate FireWire Card.*

Being as specific as i can...

I need to be able to play in & out Component & Composite video with deck control to various machines. This would all be routed through patch panels in our Machine Room. Composite for Monitoring. SDI/AES would be useful.

I use Black magic Decklink ... you must have SDI in/Out...the newer version has a multi bridge, an analog converter and break out box which is great for monitors and audio outs plus the usual Componant/Composite but get SDI because you will need it sooner rather than later.

I also use the Decklink range - mine is the Declink HD Pro 4:4:4 (Dual SDI) a very nice card it is too...

But if you want lots of input output options:

--------------------------
AJA IO (Standard Def)
--------------------------

RS-422 Control Port (Sony), 9-pin D, for machine control.
10-bit uncompressed SDI with embedded audio In/Out.
Analog (10-bit A/D and D/A) video inputs/outputs.
-S-Video In/Out
-Composite NTSC/PAL Video In/Out
-Component YPbPr/RGB Video In/Out
-Genlock/Reference Video (looping)

24-bit digital/optical/analog multi-channel audio.
-4 channel AES/EBU audio In/Out
-4 channel balanced/unbalanced analog audio In connectors support XLR or TRS-type connections
-4 channel balanced analog audio Out connectors (XLR)
-8 channel optical audio In/Out
-8 channel balanced audio monitor Out
-8 channel embedded audio over SDI

Audio word clock connector (BNC) for audio synchronization

--------------------------

or the one Phil suggested

--------------------------
Blackmagic Decklink or Multibridge (Standard Def & High Def)
--------------------------

Phil mentioned that these "the usual Componant/Composite" this is not entrirely correct:

The Decklink SD & HD ranges have Component OR Composite (switchable not simultaneous in SD mode).

The Multibridge range has no 'Composite or S-Video Out' only Component and SDI.
