Anyone else working with a G5 Power Mac notice the fans coming on more often (and ostensibly without reason) with the 10.4.4 upgrade?

I'm noticing it. A bit annoying that is for sure

Hi,

This trick solved the annoying fan issue I had with 10.4.3 (Dual 2.0 G5). Please let us know if it works for you in 10.4.4.

Open up your system prefs. Go into "Energy Saver". Select "Options" and look at "Processor performance". By default it is set to "automatic". Change it to either "highest" or "lowest" and hopefully your fan trouble will go away.

In my tests- I have not noticed any difference in actual performance with it set to "highest" or "lowest". But now my fans remain at a low constant quiet speed even during heavy renders etc.

Good luck!

BTW - Read my post on DiskWarrior if you use 3.03 and are encountering problems - just found the answer myself and thought I'd share it:
