Need Help making back up tape dubs with timecode

Posted by filmstorm
FCP 5.0.4
OSX 10.4.4
G5 Quad
4.5 Gig RAM

I have digitized from the DVX into FCP. Now I would like to come out of FCP via firewire into the DVX to make a back-up TAPE dub ... but I would like the original timecode.

I've tried firewire, coming out of FCP with the setting in "Recording Setup" set to "1394 TC Regen ON"

Any suggestions?

Also:
Can I dub a tape with firewire from a DVX to an HVX and preserve timecode from the source tape? (this is an option I have)

You cannot output from FCP the original clips timecode. The only way you are going to get original source timecode is to dub from tape to tape.

You SHOULD in theory be able to do the DVX-HVX. Try and see and report back.

Why are you backing up your tapes? Seems wasteful and silly to me.

I believe Nick Meyers has mentioned that you can output the original clip timecode using Simple Video Out. Look that up in the forum.
