capturing 4 tracks of audio in FCP

I am about to shoot a small feature using the new Canon Hdv Hi Def XL H1. This provides for four discreet audio inputs. I plan to have the mixer use radio lavs on, say, three actors and have a mono boom when necessary.

Can I capture 4 tracks of audio along with picture simultaneously via firewire into FCP5? Or do I have to do two passes of two audio tracks each.

Responses greatly appreciated.

Best

Harry.

FCP does have multichannel audio with support for up to 24 channels in and out, but not over firewire.

You need more specialised harware.
Thank you for your response.

Can anyone out there tell me hw to digitize 4 channels of audio recorded onto a Canon XL H1. Apparently I can't get it out via firewire.

How can this be achieved. Is this a 2 pass issue?

Help please.

Harry,

Try one of these: Sony DSR-1500A
[bssc.sel.sony.com]

$6,500. + and SDI card

SDI carries all four audio channels. Oh, then you'll need a AJA or blackmagic card that can accept an SDI signal.

With the above equipment, this is a single pass process. Without it, 2 passes.

Thank you Jude and Mark. Very helpful answers. Further to this, you might be interested to know that Canon claims that the camera will output 4 tracks of audio over firewire provided that FCP is set up to receive it.

Many thanks for your prompt replies.

Best wishes

Harry.
Mark, thanks for the advice. It looks like I can get 4 channels of audio out of the Canon via firewire into FCP - or so Canon tells me today.

Many thanks for the advice.
