Are there 4.5 and 5.1 subclipped footage issues?

Hi

I am running 5.1 and I plan on laying off 10 hours of DV footage (in 30min chunks) onto a portable hard drive. Some one is then going to subclip the footage from the portable on their FCP system.

However, they are running 4.5. When I get the hard drive back with the project and subclipped footage will I be able to open the project back up and edit on my system or will there be conflicts?

Thanks,

J

Yes. However, 30-minute clips are not a good idea. Try 15-minute chunks.

Also, I've had experience with clips losing one channel of audio when you go back and forth between FCP4.5/QuickTime 6 and FCP5/QuickTime 7. Furthermore, since you're capturing the footage and they (assistant editor?) are doing the subclipping, log notes and some other metadata will be lost because that's part of the project file, and their FCP4 system won't be able to open your FCP5 project files containing the logs.

Since you're just speed-logging, why not just let them do the capturing as well?

Thanks for the reply Derek.

Do you know if there were any issues between 5.0 and 5.1?
