What is the best post production Mac based solution, FCP or After Effects, for slow motion, from a 1080i 60i camera, namely the Sony HDR-FX1? is there anything better than Twixtor?

Twixtor Pro :-) Haven't seen anything better on the Mac, though you might need some additional tools to split the video into layers for extreme Slomo. Doing that the final handling in AE is much more comfortable.

Michael, my oldest trick from another system (DraCO!) was to go for 1/3 speed if at all possible. This way, without any special processing, all fields end up in the right place. Same for 1/5, 1/7, etcetera.

I would then for a cleaner look double the 1/3 speed up, and offset by one frame, and composite one over the other at say 33% opacity. Worked like a charm, as long as that speed was good for the job.
