Compressors and codecs

Hi
I am working on a g4 power book fcp 4.5 hd and I am working on one minute clips for a web site, i can compress with sorenson 3 and qt, but am trying to see what would happen if i use compressor, and i constantly get the message "unable to connect to background" using any of the mpeg4 ntsc presets. I have tried both exporting from fcp and importing file from my external drive in to compressor.
Help or am i better off using qt h.264 and forgetting about it. Although I would like to be able to compress several formats for the client. THANKs
