A tricky one, has anyone come across this as yet.

The jumping you get should only be in your canvas window.
If you have an external monitor look at that instead, the canvas window is only for reference.

The jumping is basically there cause FCP does not display the timeline at full resolution.
If you select "sequence" in the top menu and go to "render all" - "both" FCP will render in high res and the jumping will go away until you change it again.
This is generally unnecessary since the rendered file will not have these problems anyway.
(As you have noticed yourself)

Thanks for your reply. The jumping is still there on an external monitor. It happens at the start of an effect that is applied to the beginning or end of a clip. It still jumps (on the external monitor via sdi and component input)even after render all is selected and rendered.any thoughts? Phil

You need to make sure there is a checkmark next to 'full' in the render all menu, then render all > both. This will render your entire timeline, but only need topups when you change things.
