Transparent Logo in FCP6

I'm trying to insert a logo from a still image inside a sequence in FCP6, but I can't its transparency right.

It's an extremely simple rectangle filled with text surrounded by a transparent "inside". It's so simple I can even remake it from scratch, but I can't get its inside to become transparent in FCP. I'm using Illustrator and Photoshop CS3.

What would be the best way to achieve this?

In PS, put the logo on a layer with a transparent background and import.

Make sure its an 8bit RGB PSD.

Also, sometimes the alpha is reversed, for what reason I know not. Try selecting different alpha options under Modify > Alpha Type.

Or try composite modes. Start with screen.
