I just threw in a 10,000 x 10,000 .psd to see what would happen and although it was like pulling teeth, speed wise, it's all functioning correctly here. Get a cup of coffee, or maybe a bottle of bourban for the waiting.

Have you thought about using Motion for your rollers instead? The latest version makes great gfx pretty easy.

you're right, among other things, i'm thinking about end rollers,

RAMPAGE had a 6000 x 576 PSD, and that behaved very well.
but the end roller on that was broken into three sections.
the 6000 plus two 4000 x 576 PSDs

if it had all been in one, it would have been 14,000 x 576.
and if it had been HD, it would have been 26,000x 1080

yeah, i've really got to get into Motion a bit more.
(been using it a little bit for optical flow slow-mo shots.)
the little i've seen makes me realise it's part of the future for FCP users

so i could layout my text in there?
my requirements are to be able to have multiple formats:
centre gutter on two columns,
centre justified
smaller "song" blocks
imported logos, etc

thanks

Yeah full layout, in blocks would probably be good for the gutter style. Then just add the text behavour 'scroll up', adjust the rate and so on. Easy. Then adjust the position to centre justified, save as, version two done. Etc.
