Weird dimensions when exporting for iPod

Hi gang,

I'm trying to compress a bunch of short clips for iPods using FCP4. I use "Export Using Quicktime Conversion..." and just select the "iPod 320 x 240" option, but all my clips come out as 320 x 213. These are full-frame DV, by the way. Is this normal? Or weird, as I suspect?

Thanks!

Mark

It's normal and it's wrong. Apple have "forgotten" that DV uses non-square pixels! it should produce a 320x240 result.

Explains how to achieve this.

Actually, Apple have not forgotten about square vs. non-square! The version of FCP you're using does not support output to video iPod.

The recent Compressor update (for Final Cut Studio 5.1) includes a preset for encoding video to iPod. It outputs the correct sizes: 320x240. It also includes an anamorphic size, and a 1.85 and 2.35 size.

You can upgrade from FCP4 into the complete Final Cut Studio 5.1 package for only $199 by going here:

If FCP4 doesn't support output to video iPod you'd really think there wouldn't be an "output to iPod" option!! It's a little confusing!
