LOST Channel 1 audio in Capture preview

I still hear CH2 but when I am capturing from DVCAM deck into FCP Studio on a G4, 10.3.9 - channel 1 is not hearable. It still captures... but I can't hear it capturing.
Why would this happen?

do you have the preview audio button checked?

Yes. And when there is audio on ch2, it goes on and off appropriately. but nothing from the ch1. It used to work on both channels just fine.

NEVERMIND... THE MONITOR CABLE WAS HALF UNPLUGGED. I am still discovering the inadvertant damage done by a knuckleheaded son who ravaged the edit platform for an XLR cable !!!!!! God, give me patience.
