Multiclip sequence error

I keep getting the folowing error when trying to set up a multiclip sequence;

Sequence Error: Unable to add clip to sequence.
Possible media limits problem in clip or sequence.

No doubt something simple but no doubt I have not been able to find it using the manual or searching. No doubt right under my protruding proboscis.
