Our Vendor Sucks!Posted by mark@avolution
My boss is on holiday; and only he knows who sold us the turnkey
Apple G5 Dually; FCP, Motion et al. Anyhow, it came installed with Motion 1.1, and the vendor; who will remain nameless, sent us a Motion 2.0 disk. I plug it in, and it asks for the serial # of Motion; of which I type the Motion #1 SN, and it is greyed out for OK, because-guess what, the 100% bona-fide Apple disk for Motion 2.0 DOES NOT have a SN on the cover paper holder thingy. I was really looking forward to using replicator; but now I have to painstakingly recreate all this in 3ds Max; because our vendor did not supply the SN Motion 2.0 disk. Thankyou Unnamed Vendor (not) ...back to Windows
it gets past this stage.
the compatibility test is first then the login in name sn this is not the problem it already had Motion 1.1 installed (and it looks as though this will be the case until it is sorted out with the Vendor) it meets the requirements no probs as said before no replicator means having to do all this in a rendered environment of 3d Studio, and basically my heart is broken that motion can not be my new toy.
You can try trashing the System ID and then re-entering the S/N for 1.1 and then install..

why would the upgrade disk v2.0 come with no SN attached in the first place?
There is a nice sticker set with two SNs on the 1.1 install but the 2.0 disk does not have anything to say whether its an upgrade or a full install; and I know very little about Apples The demo was to be done in Motion (ot at least I was hoping) but my boss is up in the Far North of Canada for two more weeks; before I can get him to contact the vendor of the whole suite and say "Waz Up with Motion" I am fairly demoralized as I was counting on an easy install to v2 to create cool BGs for 3ds Max....
Why would a retail Motion 2 carry the Motion 1 serial number? It's an upgrade. When I installed my upgrade to Studio I plugged in totally new SN's... and that should have been included.
Motion unfortunately cannot be installed on my aging Dual 800. :-( - Loren Today's FCP 5 keytip: Preview effects sections with Option-P or Option-Backslash! The FCP 5 KeyGuide?: a professional placemat. Now available at KeyGuide Central: www.neotrondesign.com

> if you have paid for the software you are not doing anything illegal anyway. You are basically encouraging some internet piracy ring in Russia to steal our serial numbers and publicize them. I agree with Michael -- it's illegal, unprofessional and reckless. When you bought the software you were entitled to use that exact copy, that exact number. To steal somebody else's just because yours isn't working 100 per cent -- try that on a car and you'll go to jail.
I don't believe its purely needed anyhow. When my boss gets
back I will call the vendor and get THEM to fix it (after all we gave them $$$$$ for service and warranty work) Albeit it delays my demo for two weeks; but I will pesker the vendor to get this situation corrected. It's basically a non-issue now; from a pragmatic point of view. I tried upgrading Motion; it didn't work. Therfore I wll not use Motion to such time that the vendor talks me through a solution. I brought the Motion System ID to the trash can and this still did not work. I think the vendor must have supplied the wrong disk or something; because "Continue " is greyed out after entering name, organization, and the S/N. It's a shame as a PC user to have this as my first Apple upgrade! John.
I can agree to not post that here. If those are the rules then thats fine. That does not mean that I agree with your point of view cause I dont. And no its not like stealing a car, its more like breaking into your own car cause the vendor forgot to give you the keys. This discussion will get us nowhere however so lets drop it. I have no interest in trying to convince anyone to change their point of view about anything. I was simply trying to help. Johan Polhem Motion Graphics www.johanpolhem.com

Just because a person loses his own serial number doesn't entitle him to try to steal someone else's -- and possibly jeopardizing that other person's legitimate account information. It's a small form of identity theft.
