No. Except with maybe XML export and import. Media needs to be on both Macs of course

As long as all machines involved are running the same version of FCP.

I'm figuing the older machine is running 5.0.4.

The projects will be compatible if both systems are running FCP5.1 or 5.1.1 and you're not using any AE plug-ins (Revision FX is the exception - the only 3rd party developer with AE Intel compatibility).
