Unable to locate external devices message FCP 5.1

I just installed FCP 5.1 and I?m getting no video feed to the monitor through my DSR 250. This system previously worked. Refresh device doesn?t fit it, I can not select view all frames. Selecting log and capture crashes the program without a message. I have tried latest updates, I trashed the preferences, and used a different firewire cable. My QT player is 7.1. Help
