Pan and Scan in FCP

Can anyone guide me to a tutorial on how to do simple pan and scan in FCP? Not looking to do anything complicated - just 16x9 image to be panned and scanned to 4x3.

Thanks,

Best

Harry.

Nice tutorial, Shane!

For tools, several solutions, from expensive to inexpensive:

After Effects [www.adobe.com]
MovingPicture [www.stagetools.com]
Photo to Movie [http://lqgraphics.com/software/]
FCP native controls [www.yourhome.wha]

I like MovingPicture but I'm going to examine PtM, I like the timeline layout and Ease control I see there.

why would you take a 16:9 image and turn it into a 4:3 ? What are some of the best uses for this conversion. Thanks for any info.

Maybe a project originally planned as high def which turned out not to be?

>>why would you take a 16:9 image and turn it into a 4:3<<

One of our shows airs in 16:9 and we have a 16:9 camera for that show. We also shoot for 4:3 projects, depending on the station it airs on. In these cases, we often modify the 16:9 to fit the 4:3 space, sometimes adding fake widescreen bars to any 4:3 footage in the story so that the picture doesn't seem to pop in and out of letterboxing.

Because delivery requirements for sales to TV/Cable/Sat require a 16x9 letterboxed version and a full screen version.
