is there a way that I can find out how long a project has been open?

I would like to time how long I work on a project

If you look at the project file in the finder, it will tell you when the file was created, and the last time it was modified.

The first thing I do when I start a project is save the project file -- this starts the clock ticking. At the end of the day, when you save it, it will update the last modified date. This will give you how long you edited in one day.

I suppose you could duplicate the project file each day in the finder, and keep track of your "dailies", as it were.

[This is the point where I feel clever coming up with a jimmy-rig solution to a problem. In an hour, when I check back, six people smarter than I am will have posted an option-command key sequence that will leave a running stopwatch inside the project, that will automatically stop when it senses you surfing the internet in the background.]

Oh Boy! If you only save your project at the end after editing all day, you will be in for a very bad shock one day when at 10 minutes before knock off time your computer suddenly freezes:-(

there are applications out there that will time what you do on your computer.

they're designed to help you with billing,
so they will time how long each each particular app is open, or worked in.
you can tell them when you;ve gone to lunch, or having a coffee break.
i suppose you could tell them when you're rendering, or capturing, too, which are often charged at different rates.

don't know how you'd go about differentiating between different fcp projects.
maybe have to doc that manually.

oh. and dont know what they're called either.
check out version tracker.

Hi.

There is a way in FCP.
With FCP open press at the same time SHIFT>CONTROL>OPTION>COMMAND and in the TOOLS menu choose INTERNAL TOOLS. Select APP/PERF INFO.
FCP will give you the full details of the system and your working session
