Here is what is new:
[manuals.info.apple.com] -HDV 720p24 support - JVC -HDV 1080p24 support - Canon -DVCPRO HD 720p25 support - Panasonic -XDCAM at 35mb/s - Sony -Realtime Waveform/Vectorscopes -Realtime MPEG IMX at 30mb/s -Reveal Master clip fixes. MORE! Just do a Software Update and you will get it. Or... [www.apple.com] WOOT! www.shanerosseditor.com Listen to THE EDIT BAY Podcast on iTunes [itunes.apple.com]
For once I am taking the plunge and downloading the update IMMEDIATELY. I am between projects so I feel comfortable in being able to do so.
The P2 interface is darn cool. You can preview your MXF footage...rename it...mark in and out and THEN import it. Log it exactly as you would a tape. You can choose what audio tracks to import, or to just import video only, or audio only. This is a dream come true. NICE GOING APPLE! Hmmm....now I feel a little pain for Imagine Products. www.shanerosseditor.com Listen to THE EDIT BAY Podcast on iTunes [itunes.apple.com]
Just upgraded and FCP won't even load!
Trashed prefs etc etc... Did software update - didn't work Tried downloading the standalone from apple - still doesn't load Am gonna check plugins and clean system and try again. Plus maybe removing receipts... Grrrrr Ben Will let you know if I fix/repair/work it out For instant answers to more than one hundred common FCP questions, check out the LAFCPUG FAQ Wiki here : [www.lafcpug.org]
Yeah Ken tried both ways it didn't work
I have just tried emptying the CODECs from Quicktime (looking at the crash report is seemed to indicate a QT error even tho QT worked fine). FCP now loads I'll be putting the CODECs back into QT 1 by 1 to see which one is clashing with 5.1.2 Ben For instant answers to more than one hundred common FCP questions, check out the LAFCPUG FAQ Wiki here : [www.lafcpug.org]
Ok guys here is the offending Quicktime CODECs that cause FCP 5.1.2 to crash on app start up:
on2vp3.component XviD_Codec v0.5.1.component ZyGoVideo.component These below should work fine: 3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OSX AC3 Codec.component ACTLComponent.qtx AppleHDVCodec.component AppleIntermediateCodec.component AvidAVDJCodec.component AvidAVdvCodec.component AvidAVUICodec.component AXELplayer.qtx Blackmagic Codec.component Blackmagic RT Color Correction.component Blackmagic RT Dissolves.component Blackmagic RT Image Control.component DesktopVideoOut.component DivX 6 Decoder.component DVCPROHDCodec.component DVCPROHDMuxer.component DVCPROHDVideoDigitizer.component DVCPROHDVideoOutput.component DVCPROHDVideoOutputClock.component DVCPROHDVideoOutputCodec.component EVO.component FCP Uncompressed 422.component Flip4Mac WMV Export.component Flip4Mac WMV Import.component FLV.component IMXCodec.component KonaCodec.component KonaUncompressedCodec.component LAMEEncoder.component LiveType.component Microcosm Decode.component Motion.component MP3.component msmpeg4v1.component msmpeg4v2.component MTM.component PopwireWMV-9Export.component PopwireWMV-9Import.component QTFbx.component RealMediaExporter.component SheerVideo? To those that made the jump from 5.0.4. to 5.1.1. UB and still have a Quad or non-MacIntel machine:
Has anyone done the "Apple Disc Exchange" yet and is running 5.1.1. on their non-MacIntel machines? Any weird issues? I want to upgrade to 5.1.2. UB, but I don't plan on buying a MacIntel anytime soon. Does the UB version work well on non-MacIntel boxes? In the words of Sir Laurence Olivier from the film Marathon Man, "Is it... safe?" - Joey When life gives you dilemmas...make dilemmanade.
...but there are so many "offending codecs" (especially the Avid codecs !?!?!). This is an issue I was referring to when I asked if there were any issues with upgrading from 5.0.4 to 5.1.2. I personally need & use all those codecs so this kinda $uck$ bigtime.

If Paul from Apple (PfA) could chime in here...would be greatly appreciated. Would love to hear about the conflicts between these many codecs and 5.1.2. and if there may be a fix or if it's a Quicktime thing...also if anyone else is having any other issues with 5.1.2.
Shane has already posted a "how to go back to 5.1.1." thread which scares me into not going to 5.1.2. just yet. Thanx - Joey When life gives you dilemmas...make dilemmanade.
Joey I think you misread my post the long list is fine on the PPC G5s I've tested 5.1.2 on...
Mike, I have tested the Avid Meridian & AvidDV CODECs and they work fine on the PPC I gather that there is a clash on the Intel Macs though. Of course you still cannot run FCP with Avid CODECs but you can still export using QT conversion as per usual. So using them with your Mac and AE should still work fine. Andreas, I have the latest Universal Binary Blackmagic CODECs for Decklink and again on the PPC they work as usual. I can't confirm them on the Intel Macs yet. The link is here DeckLink 5.7 for Mac OS X 10.4 Universal: [www.blackmagic-design.com] I haven't had time to test these on the Intel Macs yet - perhaps Josh will have time over the next week to test it out. I will liaise with him and see if we can run some CODEC tests on them. I have the this SheerVideo codec installed on my Mac Book and FCP 5.1.2 runs fine. The codec itself is not UB, so does not work, but it does not crash FCP 5.1.2 on my machine. Is it crashing on a G5 mac? I use this codec extensively, so this is very important for me to know. Thanks. Robert Weaver Director of Post Production Starz Media - Film Roman
