5.1.2 crash update?

So has the Avid and Blackmagic codecs VS FCP 5.1.2 problem resolved? Do these codecs actually work OK with 5.1.2? I saw that the FAQ has been changed and that some orignal posts have been edited, so I'm not sure what the go is.

Is it safe to upgrade?

No. Basically Apple is saying ALL third party QT components might cause 5.1.2 to crash, which is why I replaced the old list.

Hmm. What does 'might' mean though? I stopped someone from upgrading today because she uses a blackmagic card to do onlines, and then later found out that two other machines at the same place had already been updated with no problems. One was a PPC G5 and one a (intel) macbook pro.

Still safer to tell people to wait, do you think?

Well Apple is the officail word so we might as go with that. Simple enough thing. If 5.1.2 crashes pull any and all third party QT components out and all should be well.

Definitively IMHO you should wait. It's my experience here. I was always able to keep elder versions on the same disk, but they are all crashing now - 5.1.2 only randomly.
If want to install put it on a second system drive.
