Action Footage Strobing Too Much

(I think I get the prize for the most posts in one week)

I'm working on a project with a lot of action
footage. Subjects are moving, lots of camera
movement and zooms. The footage strobes on
playback but it doesn't look like that on the
tape. I know to expect a certain amount of that with
digital footage but there must be some way to improve?

Is there anything I can do to smooth it
out? I have tried a flicker filter but it didn't
make any improvement.

Is there some capture setting I need to adjust or could
something have been out of whack when I captured
the footage to exaggerate the strobing?
Other parts of the same clip where
there is minimal movement look okay.

(Wayne just hates HDV)

However, we will need more info in order to help. There are all sorts of causes of "strobing" in video. Some occur on your display, some because of camera exposure settings, some because your computer isn't fast enough to refresh the video for "real-time" display.

First questions:
Is this HD or SD? (Wayne does have a point, though unlike Wayne, I'm a big supporter of HDV).
What kind of camera system?
What kind of camera settings? (Exposure, Frame rate.)
NTSC or Pal?
What kind of display are you using?
When you say "It doesn't look like that on the tape.", how were you viewing it?
Was this shot in daylight, or under artificial (Flourescent?) lighting?

Oh Geez...

Under the RT menu the Playback Video Quality was set to Low and Playback Frame Rate was set to Half. I changed both to Dynamic and just like magic-- the strobing is gone. No wonder the flicker filter didn't do anything.

I feel like a big dummy, but am so glad it was something simple this time.

Thanks again for all your responses.

Sometimes, it's the little things. I always look to see if the plug is still in first.
