Hi,

Thanks for being so helpful in my bumpy ride into the world of HD!

I'm getting XDCam HD into FCP fine, and it's cutting well (albeit slow), and looks great. That last part I'm guessing, as I don't have an external monitor.

I'm considering purchasing a Kona 3 HD card, and a higher-end consumer grade LCD or Plasma. I don't really know what will go between them (there aren't any HD-SDI inputs on TVs).

I'm looking for comments on this setup, as well as suggestions for other solutions. What is everyone else doing?

Mike

Edit: I'm looking at a Sony CRT monitor that will probably get shot down next year. I'm looking for something to use until then, and probably again after it doesn't make it through the new budget.

The Kona 3 has Component and Composite outs as well. Connect those to the TV.

Won't be good for color correction, but it will give you a pretty picture...BIG too.

From what I understand (I am in the process of getting a Kona card to improve my XdCam workflow also) unless you want to work in 2k the Kona LH has all the same capabilities except for Dual Link.

Can someone else confirm that the Kona 3 has Component and Composite outs?

I can't find that on the spec sheet I'm looking at.

On the side bar:

"12-bit HD component and SD component/composite analog output"

AND look at the cable connetions...

Heh. I just went to that Kona page for a look, and thought to myself. Wow. They must be professional, look how tidy those cables are.

Amazing how a simple thing like that can inspire confidence in a product.

Peek behind my machine and see what emotion it inspires. :-)

What about adding another video card and using that for edit preview (not for color grading)? I've always been curious about that approach.
