I am busy with a project that is trying to restore and archive old performance videos from the 80's and before. By perforance I mean Performance Art. these are rare and artistically valuable tapes. We have been using Digital Pickle in SF to transfer a batch of videos from 1970's and 80's. these are VHS, 3/4 and Hi 8. We would prefer a good affordable facility in LA so we coudl be more ingaged in the choices being made. For instance, DP uses PCs only and creates AVI files and sometimes Raw files. this creates extra steps for us getting into Final Cut for editing. Also, they transfer some audio at full digital zero which can cause clipping, rather than straight unity level transfers. In some cases, the video needs cleaning and or timebase correction and in some cases the video has one track of audio that is smpte that could be stripped off. so if there are any suggestions for good accessible video restoration We would appreciate the lead.
