Inserting multiple clips without leaving a gapPosted by Willie
Hi there and a Happy New year!
I have a question: When I select a clip, drag it and press the alt key, a bent arrow appears and I can then ripple insert without leaving a gap. Why is this not possible with more than one clip? Why does it always leave a gap that then requires an extra keystroke to get rid of? Or is there a way to do this that I just don't know about? Thank you
My guess is that your clip selection has gaps in it:
- For example with clips 1-4 in a sequence - If you select clips 3 & 4 and do a shuffle edit to move them before clip 1 then you get 3/4/1/2. - If you select clips 2 & 4 and do a shuffle edit to move them before clip 1 then you get 2/GAP/4/1/GAP/3. You might want to take a look at the latest episode of our Hot Tips video podcast as it specifically covers using the Option key in the timeline. Sorry perhaps I wasn't clear, do you have any unselected clips between your first and last selected clip or are you selecting a bunch of consecutive clips?

I'm selecting consecutive clips.
I suppose what I'm struggling with is the fact that Final Cut does the ripple delete if you're moving one clip, but it doesn't close the gap when you move more than one. I did watch your podcast and really enjoyed it, especially the alt up arrow tip. Way cool!
Martin, your tutorials are crystalline as always. I especially like how you clarify the Swap (Shuffle) Edit behavior.
