This just scratches the surface of typography, but still these are very good tips for setting type and they're applicable to any project or program:
In setting type for video I would also add:
* Avoid serif fonts at small sizes, they will fall apart.
* Do add a little character spacing (between letters) to make your text easier to read. Words that are too tightly spaced are very hard to read on a TV screen.
* Add a little gaussian blur to eliminate that "crispy" effect on the edges of letters.
