OT-POST-PRODUCTION COURSEPosted by Rui Barros
I'm in a good way to receive a scholarship that allows me to study in the US for a period longer than 3 months. The big question now is to find a good school or university, they must teach cinema.
I was last september in NY for the Apple FCP Certifications, during my short visit i've notice two schools, NYU and NYFA. Are they good? LA is also a place in my mind, never been there, any suggestions? Rui Barros Editor Colorist Trainer Lisbon, Portugal RTP Post-Production Apple Certified Trainer FCP 7 Apple Certified Pro FCP 7
Rui,
Have you looked into this?: [theworkshops.com] All hands-on with courses taught by pros. They are selling the school so you'd need to find out what the deal is but they have a great reputation.

Making a movie and editing it is the best way to learn post-production. You're already a very knowledgeable graphics fellow, aren't you?
Of course, if you're getting a scholarship for a specific field then I can understand you need to find a legitimate way to use that money. The choices must be endless. But somehow I think if you could get that scholarship to work by becoming an intern in one of the best post-produciton house in LA, you'll be way ahead of the game.
I work in Post-Production for about 13 years, some of them also as a teacher. From Linear Editors to Non Linear Editors, like Stratasphere, Quantel, Avid and FCP.
The goal of this scholarship is to give profissionals an extra knowlegde in fields where they work, Arts, Design, Cinema... One of the main points of this scholarship is to study in the US and in a course that isn't available here in Portugal. Yes, my choices are endless, thats why i've asked for help here. But, Filmman, your suggestion is very good and i'm going to check if that is possible. Can you recommend me some post-production houses? There you go -- Shane came up with all of them practically :-) And he knows this area better than me for sure.
I knew you were very knowledgeable but I didn't know to this degree. LOL Okay, so I'm glad you liked my suggestion. It would be the best in your case if the scholarship program allowed it. But since I know your level better now, let me also suggest that you try the major studios and networks and see if they'll give you an internship. It's worth a try anyway.
