YEA! Success @ Last!! Sony HDR-SR1 AVCHD video into FCPS2Posted by CyWar
Aside to Mike Horton: Maybe a separate thread/area for those who have the Sony HDSR-1 Camera? Thanks - Cyrus
Hi All: Having just read a post from a few days ago, my curiosity was challenged. Here is what I did (probably still needs some testing, but it worked!): I plugged the Sony HDR-SR1 into my iMac with the USB cable provided. Once the camera's internal 30GB hard drive mounted on the screen, I started FCP. At first I just used a DV Anamorphic NTSC format for FCP. Next I used "Log & Transfer" and lo & behold, there was the AVCHD 30sec. clip I just made. I added it to the cue and it imported it as a clip directly into the project I had open. A bit on the slow side (USB), but it worked. The imported clip had the following format: Apple ProRes 422 Vide Rate: 29.9 Frame 1440x1080 Pixel Aspect: HD (1440x108) I laid the clip in a sequence (with transition) and FCP asked if I want to change the sequence format to match the clip (yes), then exported via QuickTime and selected Apple ProRes 422 (1040x1080) and the results were terrific! Far better than I expected, but superior to SD (even @ HQ). Give it a try if you have one of these Sony HDR-SR1 cameras. It was really a no-brainer!!! Any experiences by any other users would be most helpful in this thread. Regards, Cyrus iMac 27" Intel i7 Quad-Core; 16GB RAM; 2TB HD Final Cut Studio, FCP X, Photoshop CS5, After Effects, etc.
I'm trying to get a Sony HDR-SR1 to work with fcp 6.0.1 with no luck. I'm getting an "invalid directory structure" error when trying to add clips to the log and transfer interface. I'm using a macbook pro core duo2 with fcp 6.0.1 Do i need to modify the directory of the sony drive after i mount it? any help is greatly appreciated

All I did was connect the HDR-SR1 via the USB port to my iMac. Then I opened FCP Studio 2 and created a new project. When I selected "Log & Transfer" when the window opened for this procedure, there were the clips on the camera ready to import. On my desktop, the camera becomes a drive icon called "No Name". The "Log & Transfer" immediately saw all AVCHD clips on the camera hard drive. [UPDATE] I get the same error message if I try to select the folder on the camera containing the MPG vido. Apparently FCPS2 doesn't like that. I just open the "No Name" drive and drag the MPG videos from that folder to my desktop and they are copied to that location. Then I can put them through MPEG StreamClip to get the format I want. Note: Appears both the AVCHD and MPG video are "muxed" so you need to convert otherwise you get no audio when placed in a sequence.
