Insert or Overwrite from Viewer VIDEO ONLY?
August 10, 2007 07:36AM
I often have to place a clip in the timeline from the viewer, but want only the video. I'm sure this is common, but I have not been able to find an answer. As it is now, I insert - unlink - delete audio, It would be great to get this down to 1 keystroke. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

In the timeline area there are arrow type links between incoming and the actual tracks that can be moved around from track to track.

Just disconnect the audio link and it will bring in video only.

Arrows? I think you mean the Source/Destination buttons. They're the big silvery ones labelled "V1/A1/A2..." which are connected to the track names V1, V2, A1, A2 etc. No way to do this with one keystroke; at the very least you need to press SHIFT-F7, SHIFT-F8 (Clear Audio 1, Clear Audio 2), then F9 or F10 (Insert or Overwrite). This is an operation that's easier with the mouse, i think.

In fact, usually I'd leave the Source/Destination buttons along and just Insert/Overwrite the clip with audio. Now hold down OPTION (temporary link override) and click on the audio to delete.

You can also set shortcut keys in the keyboard layout in the "Tools" menu to clear audio in/out....

?the same goes for video, if you just want to bring down the audio.

and set ONLY audio or video in/out points

If at first you don't succeed, keep ****ing it up 'till it works!

One more way, very reliable but possibly more dinking around than you'd like, is to lock all audio tracks. This prevents anything being written to those tracks, so accomplishes the same thing as disconnecting with the source/destination buttons.

I like Shift-F7/F8 to disable audio targeting for video only.

yeah, but Shift F5 (lock all audio) is faster!

But potentially more dangerous...forget about a piece of sync sound down the timeline, and it's beddy-bye time!

I always do the ignore-delete later routine. More peace of mind, and you see exactly what's going on.
