Close Gap not always working

For some reasons when I try to close the gap between 2 clips in the timeline, FCP won't let me do the usual Delete...
SOmetimes it works, somtime it doesn't.

What am I doing wrong?

The gap area has to be universal through all tracks; Close Gap (Control-G) is designed to keep your timeline in synch. There may be material on an unseen track spanning the gap area you wish to close.

That command only works well if you have a clean gap, the same gap on all tracks. Other times, use the All Tracks Forward select tool (TTTT) and drag by mouse.
