Try copying just the project folder to an internal drive first. Make sure neither the DVD nor external drive is connected to the computer -- in other words, isolate the project from its media. Then see if it will open on its own. Sometimes corrupted media files can make a healthy project file refuse to open.

Try opening the project file in a regular text editor (like TextEdit in Mac). If you can't you project is toasted for sure and there is nothing you can do about it.

You could ask your friend to email you the latest Autosave Vault version. It might save you if the project file itself is somehow damaged

Also check to make sure the file has an .fcp extension. Extensions often get lost in transition and can screw with your ability to access it.

the message is now "project created with a different version of FCP"
I guess this is answer to my problem
I'll keep your advices though.

Thanks all
