Image degradation - just want to check with you guys

Hi all!

75 min doc shot minidv on the panasonic dv100a

colored corrected in FCP6, and rendered using the "render all YUV material in high precision YUV"

I am outputting DVD's for festival submission, and want to have the film compressed by the dub house, bc they can do a much better compression in way less time than i can do in compressor.

They charge 150 bucks more if i bring in a HDD than if i bring a tape.

If I lay the film back to a dvcam tape on my jvc dv deck, will the image be degraded in comparison to a quicktime exported from the sequence?

I think not, but want to verify....

Thanks everyone!

Is $150 gonna break you? I would go with the HDD. You always run the risk of running into dropouts when dealing with tapes.

...but that's just me.

What I'd do is both options you've outlined, using the tape as a backup. For example, if the post house (or the trip there, or improper handling of the drive, etc.) somehow wipes out or corrupts your drive. Before you go, backup all your files to a location out of their reach.
