I have a stock super high res image in photoshop. This is a pic of a very white room with a close up of a cd sliding into a white case. LOOK

Did you see the inner ring on the cd. Well this is my problem. I have nearly extremely close to black text. When the text goes over the black ring in the pic the text disappears.
I have seen ads and mags that seem to have done something with the blending that allows the text to slightly change color as it meets like colored part of a pic.

How is this done? or How can i dodge the color.

I have tried all of the blend modes an nothing has done this with out killing the text color in the parts that are over white.

Give the text a white dropshadow.

Save color dodge for low-budget TV commercials and softcore porn.

This is not going to video. It is print on gloss paper. Does that make a difference?

Try the white dropshadow anyhow.

Save the color dodge for low-budget magazine ads and ... I don't know, I'm out of simile.

lol

I did try the white drop shadow (100% opacity) and it didn't make enough difference. It still needs to be more legible.

change the colour of the bg.

select it with the wand,
open levels (Apple L from memory)
bring the blacks back

better yet, don't put the text there.
it's the busiest part of the photo.
putting text over it is not good design?

duplicate your black text layer.
change the levels to make it pure white.
put a very slight gausian blur on it.
drag its layer beneath the black text.

done.

or take nicks advice - i wonder why youd want type over that area anyway...?

I am trying to fit 4 pages into 3. I don't count the cover because you normally use that as an intro.

I already have the text set at 10 - 12pt so i don't think i can go any smaller.

do you really NEED 4 pages of content? id bet you have more there than you really need...
Re: PhotoShop For Dummies

You bet i do. A prospect thats reading it needs about 2-4 minutes to get thru the 1st 2 pages. This make it seem boring. This kit is quick and to the point i da say that you could get thru this whole thing in 1 or 2 mins now.

How do you change text after it has been rasterized?

What would take too long to explain can be done in 3 minutes.

If you care to send me the two layers in the file in PS - one of the image, the other of the text (rasterized or not), I can send it back with what you need.

How's he gonna learn anything if you do his work for him? Why not work with his file and instead of just handing it back to him, post back here your solution so all can see the resolution & benefit from it? smiling smiley

I ended up rebuilding the rasterized letter layer. Next time i will remember that rasterize means final for text.

Don't rasterize!
Save as layered TIFF.

generally, if i rasterise a type layer i make a duplicate of it beforehand - just in case.

or even better - i say do all your text in illustrator and paste in it. type is WAY easier to work with in illustrator

what does rasterrize do?

save as a layered tiff. is this just right clicking the layer and choosing save as layered tiff option or in some menu?

will a layered tiff accept filters?

jcorbett,

You are asking very basic Photoshop questions. There is a very detailed manual that came with your software as well as Help files in the program itself (Menu Bar / Help / Photoshop Help). Also the Adobe Photoshop forum is a big help (register):

quick'n dirty

Rasterize will make pixels, layered TIFF keeps the source/vector/layer/effect ? information. Shows up in FCP as standard graphic file with all settings like transparency etc. Works since PS 5 or so. It's basic - try it.

I also wanted to mention that the photoshop pds manual sucks colon. Try doing a search for inner opacity which is a parameter that i have used but cant find in the help manual.
Plain english is the best way to explain something. Most manuals try to talk over your head and the adobe online pdf is in lack of a lot of serch common sense.

What's inner opacity? What are you trying to do?

Re: PhotoShop For Dummies

Inner opacity - the inside opacity of a box

I saw it once and i have used it but cant find it now.
