Apple HD monitorPosted by Mark19
Is it possible that my tower does not support it? it's pixelated and the icons on the desktop are bigger than they should be.
I ran into this before on a reality show, the very same monitor too, the editor worked the whole job (7-8 episodes) with HUGE pixelated images. My buddy went and messed with the settings and cables and it went to such a beautiful picture, we watched the "300" HD trailer and i think i cried. I went into SP and made it sure the display was at 1280x800 which is the highest i can see. not sure if i need a cable or what. www.markdavid.tv
have I not connected this correctly, I really only have one option on the back of this tower. says display not connected at bottom of the list.

If all you have is one video card its kind of hard to not connect it correctly. If someone fiddled with the settings then it might be you have your resolution set to high. This causes your monitor to flicker. Or it might be a cable issue. Check to see if any of the pins are bent. Or it could be a video card issue but the stock card in a dual G5 can handle a 30inch screen I think. Its plug and play.

Yes you need at least an X800 in your Mac to drive the 30" ACD
I run my 30" ACD in 2560x1600 on a Dual 2Ghz G5 with X800 and it looks schweeeeet! For instant answers to more than one hundred common FCP questions, check out the LAFCPUG FAQ Wiki here : [www.lafcpug.org]
This is copied from tech specs
The ATI Radeon 9650 or NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL graphics card is required to power the 2560 x 1600-pixel resolution of the 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Displays. An NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL graphics card is required to power two 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Displays. Michael Horton -------------------
X800 is much faster than 9650...
Oh that link... [www.nvidia.com] is to PCI Express GFX cards NOT AGP Even if you had PCIe you cannot use the PC GFX cards without serious flashing of ROMs etc on the GFX boards. [ati.amd.com] I couldn't find anywhere to buy either the X800XT or the Nvidia6800 for the Mac so you need to shop around and find an AGP ATI (AMD) Radeon X800XT Mac Edition or AGP Nvidia 6800 Ultra DDL Mac Edition. You may have to look at a second hand one or call Nvidia or AMD directly and see if they have any from their trade-in deals... OWC has 'em (AGP Mac X800) for $350. Pricey but you'll see improved performance in Motion too.

pricey indeed! I am thinking this one guys
[store.apple.com], I don't know motion well enough to even see a performance improvement. (i need a instructional QT/DVD on Motion, i want to get the 3d cams/lights down.) www.markdavid.tv
Hi Mark - you may have missed some of my points earlier...
You have AGP not PCIe and you cannot get anything above the X800XT or the Nvidia6800 in AGP for Mac PPC. You are stuck with a choice of those two at the highest end option of your Mac unless you buy a new MacPro Intel machine with PCIe.
