Spinning plug-insPosted by DM
Use the rotate function in the Motion Tab of the clip(s) in question, coupled with a crosszoom and some motion blur...
For instant answers to more than one hundred common FCP questions, check out the LAFCPUG FAQ Wiki here : [www.lafcpug.org]
Don't know of a plugin, but why not just use keyframes in the motion tab for scale, position and rotation. Or do it in Motion for more 3D-like control. You can also save a preset thus bascially creating your own custom plug. Add some motion blur and you'll have the effect exactly as you describe.

CGM probably has what you are looking for if you dont like to roll your own

Put it into a bin or a timeline in a blank project file, save the project file onto your computer or a flash USB drive. I have an "Effects Presets" FCP project on my computer that I go to for every new project I start. www.derekmok.com
probably not much more work that tweaking a filter's parameters to suit your taste. apart from the possible learning curve... ok here's the fast track tute: in the CANVAS, go to the view menu (3rd of the little drop downs at the top) choose "Image & Wireframe" in the TIMELINE, select the clip, park on the 1st frame (you should see the white wireframe in the canvas) CONTROL K to add a KEYFRAME - the wireframe will go green move your playhead down a second or so. CONTROL K again. back to head of clip, grab the BLUE BORDER of the wireframe, drag it inwards to make the image smaller, outward to make it bigger grab the wireframe to move the clip around place your cursor on the EDGE of the Blue Border it will turn into the Rotate Tool. Rotate! ADJUST TIMING: turn on "Clip Keyframes" that's the tiny blue & green button lower left of Timeline (or Option Y) you will see a BLUE LINE under the clip with DIAMONDS indicating the Keyframes. grab the Blue Diamonds and move them to adjust the timing of your move. do you love lafcpug yet? there's a whole world of fun to be had with motion effects, and a whole lot more to learn, but this is the short version after all.
"IT" being a "motion favorite" when you've made a move that you like, Effects Menu > Make Favorite Motion. a "motion favorite" gets written into the Favorites bin in the Effects Tab of the Browser. you can drag and drop that onto other clips in a Timeline, and it's good practice to save it in a project as Derek says. the Favorites Bin is a volatile place: it resets to BLANK when you trash your prefs another way is to save the clip itself. you can copy it and paste attributes: Basic Motion. cheers, nick
Actually ran into one more thing here. The clip is 1 second. It only spins 1 full 360 degree rotation in that period. I'd like it to spin at least 2 or 3 times within the same period. Not sure how this is done.
The way I did it as follows: Select first frame of clip into browser. make freeze frame duration 1 second. apply keyframe rotation as u said and it works but I only get one roation in the period.
Start with -360 degrees and end on 360 to get two rotations. Or, since 360 gets you back to the exact same orientation as it started, just start from 0 (or -360) again when it stops. Alternately, just do higher numbers in multiples of 360.
In FCP, Filters - Perspective - Basic 3D is more versatile since it allows for X-, Y- and Z-axis rotations, and within that filter you can also do movements and zooming. www.derekmok.com
2 ways to address this:
1. return to the wireframe in the canvas, turn it a few more times. 2. double click the clip to open it in the viewer, go to the "Motion" Tab grab the rotation control and spin THAT a few more times. oh yes.. you need to be parked o a Keyframe when you do this hope that helps, nick
