longform Quicktime question 30 min, 60 min+, etc

Hi,

we're trying to make longer outputs in Quicktime, and we're running into memory problems. We have 4G's of RAM, running on a G5. FCP 5.1.4.

After many quits ("out of memory", tonight's workaround was to use Quicktime Pro to lace together 3 smaller QT's into one hour-long QT.

No headroom problems...

Shouldn't we be able to output a QT at hour-long + lengths?

You can't export a one-hour QuickTime movie? I have less RAM than you and I don't have problems. What format are you editing with? What are your export settings?

I don't find it likely that your issue is RAM. OS and FCP often confuse "storage" with "memory". Are you sure your target drive had enough space left?
