I gonna be cutting a project that was shot on a Viper and recorded to HDCAM SR.
I'll be working offline with XDCAM downconverts using the 1080p24 codec - 23.98 fps, 1440X1080, 4.5 MB/sec.
I'd really like to be able to use my old G5 system, consisting of...
G5 dual 2.0 ghz, 2GB RAM, FCP studio 2, OS 10.4, 1TB G-Raid (via FW 800)
Right now I use this for DV editing, with just a Canopus converter to send audio to a pair of speakers and video to an NTSC montor.
I'd like to upgrade this system to work the same way with the XDCAM media. The data requirements don't seem to be much greater than DV.
I'm not mastering anything, so I'm happy to stick with an NTSC output for my third monitor, but if there's a decent and inexpensive way to monitor in HD...
Any suggestions? Looks like I'll need at least a Kona card or one of the IO devices.
