online file hosting

Hey guys,

was thinking of putting my showreel up online, but is there a good (and preferably free) password protected file hosting site available?

Good, and free? Let me know when you find it.

Meanwhile, there's .mac for only about a hundred bucks a year. It's good and cheap, but not free.

You can password protect each video. Controlled sharing is one of their goals.
There's an HD option which looks pretty good for online video.
It's free.

I use .Mac with i web and it good enough for most independent videographer ... and very cheap.

Wow...hadn't seen that, AK...my bad. Quality looks better than youtube. I think I'll delete my previous post as it is incorrect

When life gives you dilemmas...make dilemmanade.

Youtube does have a protected system, where you can authorise only certain users, but yeah - the quality is like chum.

Of course, if it's just to check the order and style of a piece and not quality, it's great. Fast, easy, free.

Another option is to use brightcove.com- better quality, although I heard a rumor that they no longer host for free. But it's much better quality.

Was using this a while ago. The downside is that there is a compatibility issue with macs and you have to download a clunky client that doesn't work on macs. But what's great about it is that it's password protected, and also, videos don't get recompressed. Not exactly a video streaming website only, it's also good to put up cvs and resumes as well.

What's not so cool about vimeo is the compression- it doesn't use h.264 as its native compressor...
