How to tell if a file and or sequence is 10bit or 8BitPosted by Gualex
I'm away from FCP at the moment, but can't you go Command-9 (Item Properties) to derive that?
Also, ask yourself, do you really need 10-bit or just *think* you need 10-bit? 8-bit looks pretty nice, and you don't run into issues with 8-bit effects or transitions, headaches I have seen in past 10-bit DVCPro work, for instance. - Loren Today's FCP keytip: Set Video In & Out separate from Audio with Control I & O ! Yup, makes sense.
Can you go to the Finder level, load the clip into QuickTime Player and Get Movie Info there? - Loren Today's FCP keytip: Set Video In & Out separate from Audio with Control I & O ! Final Cut Studio 2 KeyGuide? Power Pack. Now available at KeyGuide Central. www.neotrondesign.com
I tried that too, no luck. I even tried After Effects but no luck there either.
I am about to do a job that will be shot on the red Camera and I want to get Apple ProRes 10bit files for SD finish but I can't seem to get the info neither in reduser.net nor in FCP forums Thanks for your help Gualex
ProRes doesn't come in 10bit & 8bit variants.
it is what it is, and that's 10-bit, or so i believe. read up on it here: [www.digitalpictures.com] (the HQ doesnt denote 10bit over 8bit, either, but something else.) nick
but to answer the question:
8 or 10 bit is denoted in the Compressor name, so Loren is correct: Apple 9 will bring up Item Properties for a CLIP, Apple zero will open sequence settings for a SEQUENCE, but simplest is to have a look in the Browser column. i have a Column layout called "Stats" which is just all that technical stuff. cheers, nick
