World of pain for XDCam Browser???
April 01, 2008 02:04PM
I have not done this yet; I was waiting for opinions

At present I am running Final Cut Pro 6.0 OSX 10.410
on a Dual 2.5Ghz Power PC with 2GB of DDR SDRAM.
My quicktime is 7.2.

In order to load up the Sony PDZ-KP1 browser for the
XD-HD Sony Cinealta PDW 350 Camcorder, I have read
that you need Final Cut Pro 6.02 (I assume this upgrade is done
with the Software Upgrade?) Also, I have read that QT needs to go to
7.3.

Anyhow, the question; because I am running a Power PC, and not an
Intel, will
a) I be able to do this upgrade?
b)If I can, will it create a world of hell for me in FCP with QT issues?

If you can guide me through this through your insight it would be most
appreciated!

No, we run FCP 6 and 7.4.1 on our PPC's without incident. Yes, you need 6.02 for the XDCam software to work correctly.

On Apple.com I don't see an upgrade to QT 7.3?
Would I as you, upgrade to 7.4.1. first and then get
the FCP 6.02 upgrade next?

I am more a Windoze persons and I am very careful
in pre-checking my potential upgrade as we ran into problems
with FCP 4.5 and a issue causing version of QT last year.

We had to get our vendor in last year to do an upgrade to
FCP 6.

Thanks for your help

I've heard some reports that OS 10.4.11, FCP 6.0.2, QT 7.4.1 result in "no media" in the Sony Transfer tool. Some have reported that going back to QT 7.3.1 using Pacifist resolves the issue.

I don't know this firsthand but have read enough reports to say that if you bump into the issue the above might be a viable recourse.
