Apple--->HDTV direct

Hello -
I just finished a music video, edited in Prores 422, and would like to view my FCP timeline on a bigscreen HD tv. Can I go directly out of my 17" MacBook Pro 2.5ghz into the tv?
What settings and cables do I need, is this even possible. The project dimensions are 1920 x 1080.
Thanks!
Luna

If you have the new MBP the it should be DVI-D to HDMI (if your TV has HDMI)

Some HDTVs also have a PC port either VGA or DVI-D so you could use this.

Set up your HDTV as a second monitor in the Mac OS System Preferences>Display Preferences

Cool! I'll try it (reading manual now to see which port this is), and if the cable came with the computer.
Thanks!!

I don't think you would have the HDMI cable supplied with the Mac...

Apple Store DVI to HDMI for MBP: [store.apple.com]

Apple Store DVI to VGA which SHOULD be bundled with your MBP: [store.apple.com]

You will most likely have to buy an extra VGA-VGA cable if you connect using that route...

yes, but best not to go directly out of FCP.
you'll only get the canvas display which can be lower than full-res.
First export as a QuickTime Movie, same settings.

hook your MBP up to a projector,
and in system prefs > Displays click on detect displays
(it helps to have display prefs accessible in the menu bar)

open the clip in QuickTime,
and present movie (Shift Apple F)
choose to present it to the second monitor (projector)
