unable to initialize using DVM60 tape

hey guys,
wasted 3 hours now trying to figure out why this GD tape wont let me capture. i want only the audio (thats all we taped). i was told this was a slightly better miniDV tape and am wondering if there is some setting i am missing? its a miniDV TDK DVM60 SP/LP 60/90 ME. i am using a Canon XLH1 on FCP 6.0.2. I am quite vexed as i have never had trouble like this trying to capture either audio or video ...

i know its not the cable (tried 2 different ones). i tried literally every setting at least once in the drop-down. i unplugged external HD and reset scratch to internal (after initially pointing to ExHDs), tried all i could ... and still get the "unable to initialize..." error.

as luck would have it - i have an edit deadline for HQ tomorrow (see: smacking head against table) as per usual. if this could only happen when i'm doing home movies ...

any thoughts? thanks as always.

With Canons you want to use FW Basic not FW NTSC as your protocol. Trash prefs and try that.
