OT - Wi Fi Card for Mac Book?Posted by Darren
Total Noob about this kind of stuff so I'm looking for help on this.
Girlfriend has a Mac Book (puchased late last year). Wants to get a card (or whatever) so she can get internet when there is no WiFi available. She uses it to monitor stocks etc. so not sure if whatever is on the market would be fast enough. Any input on this would be appreciated.
If she means a card that utilizes cell phone data networks (like EDGE or 3G) then she'll need a USB version -- they make Express Cards but the MacBook has no slot. Check with your cell phone provider, or else I think Sprint or Verizon has them.

Check these guys out: EVDO Info. They sell a large variety of cards for the purpose with about any interface you need. I have used them to rent cards for one week use at trade shows and they are very reliable. They cover Sprint and Verizon, and have maps to tell you what the coverage of each is. "EVDO" is the name of the technology that uses cell networks for internet access, you'll probably run across it many places.
