FCP holds on startup: hv to shut down lacie drive

I was not sure how to describe this to look it up.

When FCP starts up it hangs at the beginning like it's trying to access something.
It doesn't continue until I turn off one of my LaCie drives.

Other than that it's ok.

Run Disk First Aid and DiskWarrior on the Lacie drive. If that doesn't help, try transferring all data off that drive and then reformatting it. How many drives are you chaining together? How many drives do you have hooked up to your computer ports?

I have 4 Lacie drives total.
connected to each other using the FW800 ports.
the last one goes out to the mac pro.

How big are the drives? If you're trying to chain four 1TB drives together, it could simply be too much. Try hooking up only the suspected problem drive to the computer directly, with all the other three disconnected and turned off.

the drive with the prob is 500gb. the other 3 are 250gb.

Yep, your pipeline is overloaded. I generally don't recommend chaining more than three FireWire drives at once. Especially Lacies. Also, are all the drives FireWire 800, or just the 500GB one? Mixing FireWire 400 and 800 drives can also slow the whole thing down to lower than FireWire 400 data rates, in my experience.

The only firewire chain that maintains performance that I know of is Caldigit's FirewireVR. G-Raid2 & LaCie all lose performance when chaining.

When life gives you dilemmas...make dilemmanade.
