Copressor Setting to makeoutput PS3 compatible (Playstation 3)

Hi,

I am really glad that I found this forum in the web that is really active! I hope you can give me some hints to the following problem:

I have a HD Video in FCP (newest version, all updates installed on a 24" iMac, 4 GB Ram) and I want to export it / encode it via compressor so that it runs in the best quality (1920x1080) on the Playstation 3.

I found several webpages indicating ways throu reencoding it with Toast but I can't imagine that Compressor is not able to provide any output compatible to Blue Ray disks (this is actually true i think) or the format h.264 accepted by the Playstation 3 (but what about this?).

Everything I tried was not working and searching in the forum & FAQ wasn't successful neither.

I hope someone can help me with a solution.

Thanks,
Daniel

Hi,

thanks, yes but I don't really want to buy another program to have it running - besides that: each reencoding makes the quality drop a notch. Therefore I would prefer to keep it as a mp4 output if possible which could be burned on a data DVD and also played on the ps3...

My workflow FCP -> Color Grading --> Compressor ---> PS3

I am stuck at the last bit :-)

I know in order to make a real blue ray disk, I have to put the file structure etc. all on the disk. This is not what I want. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding.

hmm... Final Cut/apple doesn't have a blue laser burner or authoring capabilities as yet. Currently it's Adobe Encore for many mac blu ray authoring folks. Many of us are waiting for that Blu-ray solution and probably DVDSP 5.

Mpeg2 is also supported by Blu-ray, and Compressor 3 can encode to a Blu-ray stream (program stream) which you can bring over to Encore to encode to Blu Ray (i think it just creates the assets and not a 're-encode' if you get where I'm coming from). I don't think PS3 can decode H.264/mov or Mpeg2 files.

Blu Ray compatible H.264s seem a little bit out of what Compressor 3 can do for now. I could be wrong, but I don't recall coming across it.

I think PS3 and the Blue Ray disc spec specifies playback of H.264 and especially with the latest version of the OS software, version 2.35, which was released on May 15, 2008 & the new Blu-ray profile 2.0
