i just used some sxf from DJ sfx library3. When i dropped them in the TL it was 6 tracks of audio.

Why is it 6 tracks and what does it do to have 6 trks audio for 1 sxf.

Yep. CAF files - Core Audio Format.

ahhh, L/R front , L/R rear and center. Eye Sea said the wench.

is it necessary to have a 5.1 file in fcp or would it be better to allow compressor to do that. I have always used compressor for 5.1, giving each audio trk a stereo pair as default. Then i would split it in comp3.

i am guessing that my fcp ref qt is only stereo. So even if there was a 5.1 audio trk it would end up stereo.

If your sequence is set to stereo, then yes, it will be output as stereo when you export.
