Audio filters! EEEkkk!

The FCP audio filters are, obviously, enormously compicated. Is there a FCP filter that will simply allow me to increase or decrease bass and/or treble? Thanks. I'm working in Final Cut Studio on a G5 with OS X 10.4.11

Clunky is the word. You can try using the eq filters, though my word is to leave it for the audio guys later on and just work on the levels in FCP. Otherwise, you can send it to soundtrack pro when you are done with the cut. The plug ins in Soundtrack pro are much more effective, as many of them come from Logic.
