Uprezing from Digibeta to HD

Hi there

First post, just wondering the easiest / best way to uprez digibeta to HD.

I am running FCPS2, original footage shot on 35mm with a one light transfer to digibeta.

Footage will be captured via a Kona 3. and will go straight to DVD.

Work flow and equipment suggestions welcome.

Many thanks.

ps: great forum

you're going up to HD and then back down to DVD? uh, why?

Capture the Digibeta over SDI into the Kona card... don't really know why you'd uprez it, but yeah you can do that.

1 - open your digi beta project in FCP.
2 - Be sure your playback output ( alt-apple Q ) is in 525i ( using the digi beta codec )
3 - Open the AJA KONA 3 Card control panel and be sure your frame buffer is the same as the playback output in FCP.
4 - Right click on the SDI 1 or SDI 2 output( depend from wich one your outputting ) in that control panel and choose the conversion you want, example : 1080i59.94.
5 - Than output the timeline on an HD CAM SR VTR.

And chooser, Blu-Ray discs aren't called "DVDs", which may have caused the confusion. The short form for Blu-Ray is "BD". (Thanks, Bruze Nazarian) Amending the terminology may help you get the right workflow.

My repeated suggestion that they be called "Blu-ray Video Discs" or "BVDs" went ignored. I'm so disappointed.
