I found a freeware app that allows you to remap your keyboard. Since I got this new Mac with the 'chicklet' keys, I've been constantly reaching for F16 - F19 for volume controls and eject except that Apple moved these to F10 - F12 and a dedicated eject button plus they share duties with exposé so you have to futz around with the keyboard settings for exposé and 'keyboard and mouse' in system prefs. With Spark (click to download), I've successfully been able to restore the F16-F19 keys to being mute, volume down, volume up and eject AND re-assign the previous keys to whatever I want (though you might not want to depending on how much you use 'replace edit' and 'superimpose. I hardly ever).
Here are the relevant settings:
You then have to click the green "Start Spark Daemon" button to kick it into action. Quit and enjoy. I think Loren will love this
