start/stop detection problem

I can never get this feature to work. I'm shooting standard DV, and capturing big sections of tape (40-60 minutes) that contain multiple takes. Yet whenever I run the feature on a clip, it scans to the end, but flashes a message that no breaks have been detected (and thus no markers are added). What could explain this?

If I remember correctly (I never use it), that feature uses the date/time stamp of the camera to determine the breaks. Perhaps your camera didn't have that set?

The little battery that keeps the date/time setting alive may be dead.
